The Achill International Harp Festival returns for its 3rd year this October Bank Holiday weekend. The festival not only celebrates the harp as our national instrument, our national emblem, but also showcases the instrument in its international context, with Harpers from South America and other parts of Europe.
The Achill International Harp Festival will feature nightly concerts giving audiences an opportunity to hear some of the finest international exponents of the harp and other traditional instruments. There will also be Talks and a Guided Walk.
For the night owls, there will be the Live Festival Club on Friday and Saturday night. On Sunday night after the concert there will be a late night Céilí.
A series of Instrument, Singing and Dance Workshops will run on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. The Harp Workshops will cover Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced levels. You will also have the opportunity to attend a Sean-nós dancing workshop as well as a Two hand & Céilí workshop. Other workshops will cover Mixed Instruments and Singing. So something for everyone!
The Harp Making Workshop will commence on Friday at midday with master craftsman Graham Wright and will run each day over the weekend in Coláiste Pobail Acla. Attendees of this workshop will be able to go away with their very own harp!
Between Midday and 4pm on Sunday there will be a Harp Makers Exhibition.
