Event Details

The Aspects Irish Literature Festival returns to Bangor for its 28th year. There are over 40 events on this year’s programme. The Festival celebrates writing in all its forms with events for writers, readers and both covering historic writing, poetry, crime-fiction, writing workshops, children’s events, politics, memoir, journalism, script-writing, short stories and exhibitions. There will also be book launches and a good programme of child-friendly family events.

This year back by popular demand are Aspects’ friends; Michael Longley, Fergal Keane and Malachi O’Doherty as well as local talent in Moyra Donaldson, Ian Sansom and Colin Bateman.

The Aspects Irish Literature Festival is also pleased to host the launch of Darina Allen’s new cookbook and Gerald Dawe’s latest poetry collection.

Bangor is situated at the head of the Ards Peninsula which is a great touring route, so it would be easy to combine touring the region with picking up an event or two at the festival. Some of the events will be taking place in the grounds of Bangor Castle, which is really a mansion rather than a castle. It was built in Victorian times in a  Elizabethan-Jacobean style and now houses the local authority offices. It’s a lovely setting with magnificent gardens.
