The Cork International Poetry Festival, which is one of the biggest annual poetry events on the Irish Festival calendar, kicks off this year on the 19th. It celebrates Cork as a vibrant poetry scene with international connections. The festival is produced by the Munster Literature Centre and is funded mainly by the Arts Council and Cork City Council.

Some of this years acts include award-winning poet Paul Duncan; Billy Collins, Poet Laureate of the United States from 2001 to 2003 and New York State Poet from 2004 to 2006; Sandra Beasley The 2019 John Montague International Poetry Fellow and Abigail Parry, whose poems have been set too music, translated into Spanish and Japanese, broadcast on the BBC and RTE Radio, and many more. As well as Readings there will be a number of Award Ceremonies and Workshops.

The Munster Literature Centre also produces the Cork International Short Story Festival each year.
