Event Details

The 25th consecutive Fleadh by the Feale will commence this year on the 2nd of May. This annual festival is held over the May Bank Holiday weekend.

The Fleadh will commence on Thursday evening with the presentation of Art Poster Prizes & an Exhibition in Abbeyfeale Library. Later in the evening there will be “Gathering Sessions” of Music, Song & Dance in TJ O’Connells Bar, with Ceol, Cainnt agus Craic.

Friday night starting at 7pm, is Busking night for groups aged 9 to 18 years. The footpaths on Main Street will be crowded with young musicians and their parents & friends. Entertainment on the Gig Rig will commence at 8.30pm and will be provided by Athea & Tournafulla Wrenboys. There will also be a Céilí in Fr Casey’s GAA Club starting at 9.30pm, featuring Donie Nolan & Taylors Cross Céilí Band.

A series of Workshops will be held on Saturday 4th May in Scoil Mháthair Dé. The workshops and tutors will be for Accordion: Derek Hickey; Flute: Garry Shannon; Fiddle: Dave Sheridan and Nicky McAuliffe; Banjo: Joanne O’Connor; Concertina: Tim Collins; Singing: Edel Vaughan.

There will be a Youth Trad Session after the workshops in Donal & Ann’s Bar. Early evening will see a Sliabh Luachra Session in Leens Hotel and at 6pm the Sean Ó’Riada Traditional Mass. In the evening, the town square will be crowded with entertainment on the Gig-Rig provided by Templeglantine Comhaltas.

Sunday afternoon will see more music & fun in the square with Social/Céilí dancing. If you are interested in Storytelling then St Ita’s Hall is the place to be at 3pm. Tournafulla Comhaltas will be providing the entertainment on the Gig Rig at 3.30pm and in Murphys Bar at 4pm there will be a Tribute to Dan Murphy with a Polka/Slide Recital.

In the evening at 8pm, the Traditional Celebrity Concert with the Colaiste Íde agus Iosef Band followed by the The Kilfenora Céilí Band will take place in Colaiste Íde agus Iosef Hall.

On Monday night unique to Abbeyfeale, will be the All-Ireland Junior & Senior Bone Playing competition.

While all the above events are taking place, there will be traditional music sessions occurring in most of the local Bars over the festival. These sessions will be happening during the afternoon & night and are marvellous free entertainment open for all to attend.

With wonderful music, song and dance, there will be something for the whole family at this, the 25th Fleadh by the Feale this May bank holiday weekend.
