Event Details

The Kilcar Fleadh is a week long festival of traditional Irish music, song and dance in South West Donegal. The Fleadh features Music and Dance Workshops, Concerts, Live Street Music, Ceilí and Set dancing, Illustrated Talks and Traditional Pub Sessions.

This year, the Kilcar Fleadh takes place from Monday 6th to Saturday 11th August with registration for various Workshops in Áislann Chill Chartha from 11.00am to 1.30pm on Monday.

The Kilcar Fleadh proudly boasts that it probably the best value in music workshops of any festival. The Workshops will cover Fiddle, Guitar, Accordion, Tin Whistle and Dancing. There will also be a daily free 1 hour Workshop for the Irish Language.

These Workshops are available with top tutors every day from Monday to Friday, with the times being Monday 2pm – 3.30pm and Tuesday to Friday 10.30am – 1pm with the Dance Classes on Tuesday to Friday 11am – 1pm.

On Monday evening at 7pm, ‘The Ramblin’ Session’, a short walk with music along the way, will see the official launch of the Fleadh.

There will be fun for all the family on Tuesday evening at the Crossroads Dance with music by Ceilí Time. The Ceilí will start at 8.30pm, the caller will be Clement Gallagher.

On Wednesday in Kilcar Parish Hall at 8.30pm there will be a concert featuring the workshop tutors and friends.

‘Echoes in the Glen’ a unique event that has proved very popular especially with visitors takes place as usual on Thursday evening between 7pm and 9pm. There will be a  complimentary bus service from outside Áislann Chill Chartha at 6.30pm. This is a music recital featuring fiddles and pipes in the Gleann a ’Bhaile Dubh, recreating a tradition from the first half of the 20th century. This will end with a session.

The very popular ‘Heritage Day’ takes place on Friday between 1pm and 7pm. This will be held in Áislann Chill Chartha. It will cover displays and demonstrations of local arts and crafts with live music. You will be able to see rope making, home baking, spinning and weaving, hand knitting and sheep shearing.

Saturday sees the closing Concert with Ceol na gConallach – The Donegal Sessions, commemorating the music of Peter and Teresa Cunningham. This will be held in Kilcar Parish Hall starting at 8.30pm.

The Fleadh includes pub and street sessions throughout the week.
