The Limerick Literary Festival which was formerly known as the Kate O’Brien Weekend, honours the life and works of Kate O’Brien who was one of Limerick’s most famous authors.
The Limerick Literary Festival seeks to promote Limerick nationally as a place of literary excellence and to provide a platform where readers can meet their favourite authors and other readers.
The theme of this festival is “Imagination”, which is based on a quote from Kate O’Brien’s novel, Without My Cloak – “Wherever you go the most of life will have to happen in your mind”.
The Festival officially opens on Friday February 21st at 6pm in Dance Limerick Space (St John’s Church on John Square). The official opening will be by Vicky Phelan and will be followed by musical interlude presented by the Irish National Opera.
The weekend will see a mixture of discourse, discussions, lectures and readings by Catherine Phil McCarthy, Kathy Rose O’Brien, Liam Cahill, Christine Dwyer Hickey, Jo Unwin, Sarah Davis Goff, Dan Mooney, Clíona ní Ríordáin, Paul Lynch, Andrew Miller, John Kelly, David Barrie, Patricia Coughlan, Sarah Crossan, Gerry Stembridge, Ella Berthoud and Roddy Doyle.
