Event Details

The 10th Johnny Doherty Music & Dancing Festival in memory of the late Johnny Doherty, a local fiddle legend, starts on Friday the 21st of September in heritage town of Ardara in Co Donegal. The festival is a traditional music and dance festival where there will be something for everyone to enjoy, with Concerts, Céilís, Barn Dances, Sean Nós, Set Dancing, Workshops, Pub and Street Sessions based around the traditional music of the area.

The Johnny Doherty Music & Dancing Festival attracts people from all over the world to Ardara for a veritable feast of traditional music and dance.

Friday evening will see the festivals Opening Concert start in the Beehive Bar at 8pm with Brid Harper, Dermot Byrne and Steve Cooney with special guests Gaelic singers Mischa MacPherson and Kim Carnie.

Finishing the evening off there will be Sets & Céilí with ‘The Duntally Céilí Band’. This will start at 10pm in the Nesbitt Arms Hotel.

On Saturday between 11am and 1pm in the Heritage Centre there will be a Sets & Céilí Workshop tutored by ‘Clement Gallagher’ with another Workshop in the afternoon running between 2pm and 4pm. This time it will be the Two Hand Dance Workshop tutored by ‘Ann Connaghan & Connie McKelvey’. Also in the afternoon starting at 2pm in the Beehive Bar for those interested there will be a Gaelic Singing Workshop.

Dance The Tune with ‘Stephen Gallagher’ will be between 4pm and 5pm at Riverside Park.

The Nesbitt Arms Hotel will see a return visit of ‘Cherish The Ladies’ in concert starting at 8pm.

On Sunday between 11am and 1pm in the Heritage Centre there will be a Sean Nós Dance Workshop tutored by ‘Joe McGuigan’.

Later on at 3pm in the afternoon it will be Sets & Céilí with ‘The Emerald Céilí Band’ in the Nesbitt Arms Hotel.

The finale concert for the weekend with ‘The Friel Sisters’ will start at 10pm in the Beehive Bar.

There will be Street and Pub Sessions occurring all weekend throughout the town.
