Valentia Island King Scallop Festival

This year will see the 10th annual Valentia Island King Scallop Festival taking place on the 20th & 21st July in Knightstown. This family friendly festival provides entertainment for the whole family including live music in the local pubs and busking on the streets. There will also be a number of fishing and sports competitions. Family oriented events such as Face Painting, Scallop-shell Painting and a Kiddies Talent Show will also be happening. Then there is a Kid’s Aquathon (swimming & running), a really super event showing that kids can do it just as well, if not better, than the adults.

Then of course on the food front, there will be the Cookery Demonstrations and plenty of stalls offering freshly cooked scallops which will have been cooked in numerous different ways for you to sample. On Sunday evening the highlight of the Valentia Island King Scallop Festival will be the annual ‘cook off’ which will result in the crowning of Mr King Scallop 2019. This competition aims to find the most talented scallop chef in Valentia.

Throughout the weekend there will be Live Music from the Festival Stage on the seafront, a Country Market and Craft Fair and Watersports and on Sunday afternoon the annual Blessing of the Boats in the harbour.
