Ennis Book Club Festival

This annual festival was started in 2007 when a small group of local volunteers, in association with Clare County Library, identified the need for a new literary and social event to replace the demised Ennis October Arts Festival. Being members of a local Book Club, the wish was to create a literary event that focused primarily on readers and book lovers.

It has grown from strength to strength over the years and attracts a wide audience from all over Ireland, as well as overseas visitors, who gather to talk about and celebrate the books and literary topics they love.

As well as author readings and discussions, this festival offers quite a range of events, including debates on topical affairs, poetry readings, poetry readings, theatre, music, poetry readings, theatre, music, workshops, bookclub quizzes, for example, there is a presentation about ’10 Books You Should Read’ given by Jane Urquhart & Carlo Gebler chaired by Katy Hayes and a ‘Crime Night’ with Liz Nugent, Julia Parsons & Andrea Carter – chaired by Clare FM’s Gavin Grace. There are also walking tours through the historic streets of Ennis.

To be certain of a place at the free events it is strongly suggested that you book tickets for them to be sure of a place or come early to avoid disappointment. This is particularly important regarding the children’s events where capacity is limited. For pre-booked tickets, these can be collected at the relevant venue immediately prior to the event.
