Foxford Traditional Weekend 2019

This October sees the 5th annual Foxford Traditional Weekend getting underway from the 17th until the 20th of October. It promises to be a packed weekend of Traditional Irish Music, Song & Dance for all ages with Concerts, Master Classes, Workshops, Music sessions and lots, lots more.

The Foxford Traditional Weekend will kick off on Thursday night with the Rambling House which will take place in the Hideout at 8pm. This will be an evening of music, dance, song and stories.

Friday night will see the Headline Concert for this years Foxford Traditional Weekend which will be featuring the amazing duet of Seamus Begley & Jim Murray and the fantastic trio Carlos, Sweeney & McCartin. The concert will  start at 8pm in St. Joseph’s Secondary School.

Saturday evening at 5pm in Cruiser’s will see Teen Trad. This is a platform for younger musicians (13+) to perform. This event will include proficient teenage musicians, singers, dancers and storytellers from all parts of Ireland and promises to be a ‘mighty gathering’. The standard and quality of music from this generation is inspiring. The performances will be followed by a session.

A series of Workshops and Masterclasses will run on Saturday and Sunday in Foxford National School. All Workshops are Intermediate/Advanced level apart from the Masterclasses, Improvers Tin Whistle & Sunday Classes. The Masterclasses are open to proficient musicians, who are well able to play/learn reels and jigs by ear. Please note that places in these classes are limited and booking is essential.

The Féile Concert, starting at 8pm in Foxford Secondary School on Saturday night will feature ‘Guest Tutors’, Michael Rooney & June McCormack as well as many visiting musicians, singers, dancers and weekend tutors. This promises to be a fabulous evening of music, song and dance.

During the Foxford Traditional Weekend, there will be traditional music sessions occurring in the local Pubs. Participating in them will be some of Ireland’s finest musicians. These sessions will be happening at different times, day and night and are marvelous free entertainment open for all to attend.
