The Kilcar Fleadh – Fēile Cheoil Chill Chartha is a week long festival of traditional Irish music, song and dance in South West Donegal. The Fleadh features Music and Dance Workshops, Concerts, Live Street Music, Céilí and Set dancing, Illustrated Talks and Traditional Pub Sessions.

This year, the Kilcar Fleadh takes place from Monday 5th to Saturday 10th August with registration for various Workshops in Áislann Chill Chartha from 11am on Monday.

The Kilcar Fleadh proudly boasts that it probably has the best value in music workshops of any festival. The Workshops generally cover Fiddle, Guitar, Accordion, Tin Whistle and Dancing. There is usually also a daily free 1 hour Workshop for the Irish Language.

These Workshops are available with top tutors every day from Monday to Friday. The official launch of the Fleadh will happen on Monday evening at 7pm, with the very popular ‘Ramblin’ Session’, meeting in the village and walking out to the home of Francie & Mici Dearg, the renowned local fiddle players where there will be a session and a dance in their driveway.

There will be fun for all the family on Tuesday evening at the Crossroads Dance. The Ceilí will start at 8.30pm. On Wednesday in Kilcar Parish Hall at 8.30pm there will be a concert featuring the workshop tutors and friends.

‘Echoes in the Glen’ a unique event that has proved very popular especially with visitors takes place as usual on Thursday evening between 7pm and 9pm. There will be a  complimentary bus service from outside Áislann Chill Chartha at 7pm.

The very popular ‘Heritage Day’ takes place on Friday between 1pm and 7pm. This will be held in Áislann Chill Chartha. It will cover displays and demonstrations of local arts and crafts with live music. You will be able to see rope making, home baking, spinning and weaving, hand knitting and sheep shearing.

Saturday sees the closing Concert with Ceol na gConallach – The Donegal Sessions. This will be held in Kilcar Parish Hall or Áislann Chill Chartha.

Throughout the week, there will be traditional music sessions occurring in the local Bars over the festival and on the streets. These sessions will be happening during the afternoon & night and are marvellous free entertainment open for all to attend.
