The Concertina Cruinniú is an annual event organised by Oidhreacht an Chláir (oac.ie), which has been held in Miltown Malbay every year since 2013. It is a festival weekend consisting of Concertina classes, lectures recitals and sessions, like a mini Willie Clancy boutique festival. It caters and welcomes all age groups and abilities, with concertina classes being run on Saturday and Sunday mornings and host informal music sessions in the afternoons and evenings so that students can practise what they have learned in a friendly and open environment. There will also be a supervised Junior session on the Saturday afternoon and an adult session to encourage and support the students.

Lectures during the Cruinniú are on topics related to the concertina and are open to both students and the public. This years lectures will be on ‘Kitty Gone A-Milking: Women in Irish Traditional Music’ curated by Máire O’Keeffe with music by Eileen O’Brien, Mary MacNamara, Marion McCarthy and Geraldine Cotter and Concertina Players from Clare in the Irish Traditional Music Archive, curated by Liam O’Connor.

Saturday evening will see Jack Talty, Damien O’Reilly & John Blake in
Concert with Noel Hill and Guests.

Along with the activity during the day, there is also free traditional music sessions in the local pubs each night. These sessions are anchored by the individual concertina tutors.

This years tutors, led by Master Tutor Noel Hill, are all well known concertina players and include Edel FoxBernie GeraghtyMairead HurleyClaire Keville, Mary MacNamara, Caoilfhionn Ní FhrighilLiam O’Brien and Jack Talty.

The cost for two days’ tuition and admission to all events is €75. Early Bird Registration is available for students until 31st January 2020 for €60.
