The 42nd annual Ballyshannon Folk & Traditional Music Festival is the place to be this August Bank Holiday Weekend as the sounds of Folk and Traditional music echo from the streets, pubs and Marquee Concerts along Donegal’s Wild Atlantic Way.
Over the years this Festival has hosted all of the great names from the Irish folk and trad scene since the heady days of the late 1970’s and today it continues to offer itself as a vital platform for emerging folk and traditional music talent with its annual Showcase Competition which offers a prize fund of €1,000 plus the opportunity to perform at the festival.
The Festival commences on Thursday 1st August at 7.30pm with the opening of the Barry Britton Art Exhibition in the Abbey Centre. Then at 8pm in Dorrians Hotel the weekend festivities kick off with the annual Ballyshannon Folk & Traditional Music Festival CĂ©ilĂ Night.
Acts appearing in the Marquee this year are for Friday night, Seamie O’Dowd & Friends, Luka Bloom and Sharon Shannon & Band. On Saturday night it will be the turn of Brian Deady, BackWest and Moxie. Then on Sunday night, the final night on stage will be The Stunning, Dave Munnelly Band and Coda.
Along with the Marquee Concerts there will be plenty of pub sessions, street entertainment, busking competitions, fringe events, céilithe and the showcase competition making this another memorable festival weekend.
