The Blossom Harp Festival takes place online this year and will be bringing you the very best of Irish harp and much more to the comfort of your sitting room. So no matter where you are in the world please join us on the 27th of March 2021.

This years Blossom Harp Festival will see two Harp workshops which will be run by harpists Janet Harbison and Michelle Mulcahy.  The workshops will take place from 11:00am to 1:00pm. The tutors will record the lessons and you will have access to it for two days after the festival. This is a unique opportunity to learn from these highly acclaimed harpists. Dubliner Janet Harbison came to early prominence winning all national and a number of international harp competitions in the late 1970s. In 1980 she was the first harper to tour to America and Canada with Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann and her career took off.

Michelle Mulcahy hails from Co. Limerick and is considered to be one of Ireland’s most talented multi-instrumentalists in Irish traditional music today. Her array of instrumental mastery spans concertina, harp, fiddle, accordion, piano and melodeon. She is a much sought after performer, tutor and lecturer at music festivals and music schools worldwide and has toured extensively in Europe, United States, Canada, China, Australia, New Zealand and Asia.

In addition to the workshops, the Blossom Harp Festival tutors will partake in a 45 minute question and answer session starting at 2.30pm where you can interact directly with the tutors and chat to them asking questions and learning from their answers and from the discussion with other students. This will be facilitated by Aileen MacCrann.

At 1.15pm there will be two solo performances. These will feature harpists Elisabeth Affolter and Fiana Ni Chonnaill and will be free to attend via Facebook and YouTube.

At 4pm there will be a Harp Makers Discussion which will be given by Tim O’Carroll of Killarney Harps and Kevin Harrington an instrument maker based in Co. Wicklow, Ireland. This discussion is free to the public with access via Facebook, Zoom and YouTube.

The Blossom Harp Festival Gala Evening Concert will commence at 7pm and is free to the public with access via Facebook, Zoom and YouTube. The Concert will feature harpists Janet Harrison, Michelle Mulcahy, Fiana Ni Chonaill, harp ensembles Glissando Harp Ensemble, Blossom Harp Ensemble, Cuisle Harp Ensemble and fiddle players Manus McGuire, Cliodhna Donnellan and Denise Glass.
