The Burren Slow Food Festival celebrates Irish Food and showcases the Burren Food Trail with Food products and producers, talented chefs and restaurants from the Burren and Ireland. Food Stalls, Demo’s and Talks, Foraging Walks, delicious local, artisan and wild food.
The theme for this years festival is “Taste the Atlantic – Seaweed”.
The organisers of the festival were inspired to take up the seafood theme by the Seafood Trail along the west coast of Ireland which was launched last year by Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM). It comprises points of interest for lovers of mussels, smoked salmon, oysters, and other edible marine foods.
While seafood is one of the main interests of the festival, there are other aspects of the Wild Atlantic Way that will play a role during the festival weekend. One will be Whiskey with a focus on some new, but also some established whiskey houses.
The festival is set up to entertain and educate with cookery demos, talks, tastings and more. The Artisan Food Producers’ and Farmers’ Market offers a platform to small outfits to promote themselves and serves as a shop window for a wider audience.
Another aspect will be our culinary past with talks about historical eating and cooking habits. It won’t stop there: the festival will involve Euro-Toques, a community of Chefs & Cooks supporting small and artisan food producers and sourcing the best quality ingredients available locally and in season.
