Oysters & Traditional Music, what could be better! The village of Carrigaholt on the Wild Atlantic Way will be having its annual Oyster & Trad Music Festival over the May Bank Holiday weekend. The village will play host to free live Trad Music Sessions and Music Workshops during this fun packed weekend. When you are not busy participating or being a fan, there are plenty of other activities to entertain you including Oyster Opening and Eating competitions where you could become the Carrigaholt Oyster Shucking Champion, Street Food, Oyster Bar and much, much more.
As well as Music events there will be Seafood events taking place throughout the weekend. The highlight of the weekend for food lovers will be the Open Air Food Market on Sunday.
The Festival will commence on Friday evening with a Surf & Turf Night at the Long Dock Restaurant at 7pm. This will be followed by a trad session in the The Long Dock Bar from 8pm until 10pm followed by another trad session in Carmody’s Bar starting at 10pm.

A series of Workshops will be held in O’Curry’s Irish College on Saturday the 5th of May with the aim of promoting Irish traditional music. The workshops will run from 11am until 1pm with registration commencing at 10.15am. For these workshops the Tutors will be for Whistle/Flute: Eamon Cotter, Banjo: Noel Birmingham and for Concertina: Sorcha Curtin.
On Sunday from 11am until 1pm there will be a special Junior Trad Session taking place in Morrisseys Bar. This will be a great opportunity for all ages to play their tunes.
There will be a free Bodhrán Workshop on Sunday with everyone welcome. For this event if you would like to take part Bodhráns will be supplied. This will be a social gathering for players of all levels including absolute beginners. Join the fun on the streets of Carrigaholt. If interested meet up outside the Long Dock between 1-2.30pm.
