From small beginnings, Ceardlann Earraigh has grown to become an established event in the annual calendar of Irish Traditional events. Ceardlann Earraigh celebrates its 21st Anniversary on the 24th of March 2018. It will kick off this year with a Launch Session on Friday 23rd of March. The session will feature local musicians and all are welcome to attend and join in! The session will take place in the Upstairs in the Kildrought Lounge, Celbridge, from 9pm.
The first event was organised as a result of a grant received from Kildare County Council by Bord Chill Dara CCÉ. Over the year these workshops have drawn pupils from all over Ireland and far flung places such as Wales, Scotland, Sweden, Germany, the US and Japan. They travel to Kildare because they are consistently provided with the best of tuition and this year will be no exception.
The Workshop Tutors will include Fiddle: Liam O’Connor and Ciarán Ó Maonaigh; Concertina: Caitlín Nic Gabhann; Flute: Conal Ó Gráda; Button Accordion: Daithí Gormley; Banjo: James Harvey; Whistle/low whistle: Cormac Breatnach; Bodhrán: Colm Murphy; Uilleann Pipes: Caoimhín Ó Fearghail.
An Instrument Makers Expo will be held during the Workshops. This will give the attendees an opportunity to watch and discuss the making/repair of a variety of instruments and will also include reed making for Uilleann Pipes. The Workshops will be held at Scoil na Mainistreach, Celbridge.
The Trad Concert will follow in the evening at the Glenroyal Hotel, Maynooth commencing at 8pm. It will feature both the Tutors from the Workshops and visitors.
We look forward to meeting old friends and welcoming new ones to Ceardlann 2018.
