Event Details

The Craiceann Bodhrán Summerschool was launched in 2001, and has continued each year since then with over 1,000 students from 20 countries enjoying the Craiceann experience.

The Bodhrán Summerschool is arranged around a series of classes given by some of the world’s best bodhrán players and teachers. It also includes special workshops relating to the instrument itself, and traditional Irish music in general.

Every evening, music sessions are held in the island’s pubs, and students are welcome to bring their drum and join in.

On two evenings (normally Tuesday and Wednesday), concerts are performed by top-class bands. For this year, the first concert will feature The Conifers. The band came together whilst studying traditional music at the University of Limerick. Their repertoire is rooted in the regions of Clare, Sliabh Luachra and Donegal. Whilst the other concert will feature one of the up and coming bands in Ireland, TRODA. This exciting trio of musicians, Kevin Meehan, Jack Warnock, Eamonn Nugent, hail from Derry, Dublin and Glasgow respectively and mix the best of both the Irish and Scottish Music scenes.
