Event Details

The Donegal International Folk & Roots Weekend is part of the annual Earagail Arts Festival. It is brought to you in partnership with the Regional Cultural Centre, Letterkenny.

Situated along Donegal’s Wild Atlantic Way, the Donegal International Folk & Roots Weekend allows the perfect opportunity for you to mix culture and exploration as one delves into a county steeped in musical tradition and stunning undiscovered, wild landscapes. It features a host of local and international artists with guided walks, seisiún trails, workshops and concerts. You certainly won’t struggle for something to suit every type of traveller.

The festival kicks off with the Mouthpiece Open Mic on the 10th at the Cottage Bar in Letterkenny at 9pm. On Thursday starting at 1pm will be an afternoon of free seisiúns in the stunning surroundings of Glenveagh Castle. Renowned local artists such as Diane Ní Chanainn & Manus Lunny are joined by Greek Irish bouzouki duo Duo Zouk, the bluegrass and old timey Americana of the Morgan O Kane Band and the young trad supergroup Coirm.

Some of the other acts appearing over the Donegal International Folk & Roots Weekend are Lankum who will be appearing on Friday. They are a Dublin based band whose close vocal harmonies, instrumental interplay and dramatic storytelling pins you to the seat and revives the spirit. On Saturday you can see Moonlight Benjamin creating a powerful and original fusion between Caribbean voodoo and 70’s US blues rock, and many more acts over the festival.
