The Feakle International Festival of Traditional Music celebrates the best of Irish traditional music, especially the distinctive style of East Clare, with five days of traditional music, song, dance and theatre with workshops, lectures, concerts, ceili’s, set dancing, sessions and open-air events.
The Festival will be officially opened on Wednesday at 7.30pm in the Community Hall by legendary Musician and Composer, Eileen O’Brien followed by a Music Recital with many of the talented young musicians from East Clare under the tutorship of Mary MacNamara.
This years Festival will see the debut performance in Clare of The Martin Hayes Quartet. Some of the other acts appearing include Garadice and CaitlÃn Nic Gabhann & Ciarán Ó Maonaigh, Cormac Begley & Steve Cooney, Catherine McEvoy, MÃcheál Ó Raghallaigh & Jack Talty and many, many more.
Workshops in Fiddle, Accordion, Concertina, Flute, Banjo, Guitar, Tin Whistle, Traditional & Sean-Nós Singing, Sean-Nós Dancing and Set Dancing will take place on Thursday, Friday and Saturday mornings from 10am until 1pm. If you would like to attend one of the Workshops then you may book online before you arrive. You can enrol at the workshop venue from 9am onwards on Thursday 8th August or make enquiries at the Festival Office from 3pm on Wednesday 7th August. Please note that a degree of competency is required for all instrumental workshops.
The prices for the Instrument and Singing Workshops are €25 per day or €60 for 3 days and for the Sean-Nós Dancing and Set Dancing Workshops it is €10 per day or €25 for 3 days.
There will also be a Children’s Art Workshop running from Thursday to Saturday between 2pm and 5pm each day at a cost of €5 per day and a Sean-Nós Dancing for Children Workshop on Saturday afternoon between 3pm and 5pm again at a cost of €5.
Throughout the Feakle International Festival of Traditional Music there will be traditional music sessions occurring in all of Feakles Pubs. These sessions will be happening during the afternoon & night and are marvellous free entertainment open for all to attend.
The Festival Office is based in the Community Centre and will be open from 3pm on Wednesday the 7th of August. There you can get information, buy CDs, T-Shirts and book and collect pre-booked tickets. For events requiring an admission fee, tickets are available to purchase online at Glor and can be picked up at the Festival Office.
