For over more than two decades, Féile Chois Cuain has earned an enviable reputation as one of Ireland’s premier traditional festivals with many of Ireland’s most revered performers returning to the festival year after year. Wonderful concerts, masterclasses from legends, lively sessions and a legendary warm welcome awaits all visitors to Féile Chois Cuain.
Friday sees festivities kick off at 7.30pm with a Youth Concert featuring local and visiting artists. Later on in the evening at 9.30pm the Official Launch will take place in The Derrylahan, with a Cheese and Wine reception.
Saturday will see the Workshops/Masterclasses take place between 10.30am and 4.00pm. The Set Dance Workshop will take place in the Parochial Hall. Pádraig & Róisín McEneany being the tutors.
The Masterclasses will take place in Sancta Maria College. The classes and tutors are for Accordion: Séamus Tiernan/Dermot Byrne; Fiddle: Dylan Foley/Tony DeMarco; Flute: June McCormack/Aoife Granville; Tin Whistle: Jillian O’Malley/Conor Crimmins; Concertina: Mícheál Ó Raghallaigh/Michael Rooney; Banjo: Cliodhna Costello; Guitar Accompaniment: Eamon O’Leary; Ballads: Enora Butler; Sean-Nós Singing: Conchubhar Ó Luasa; Dancing Sean-Nós: Rónán Ó Riagáin; Set Dancing: Pádraig & Róisín McEneany.
From 4.15pm until 6.00pm there will be a Sean-Nós Session in the Parochial Hall with Caitlín Ní Chualáin, Caitríona Ní Cheannabháin, Mary Ann Ní Cheannabháin, Nollaig Ní Laoire, Antaine Ó Faracháin, Gráinne Ní Fhátharta, Johnny Mháirtín Learaí and Traolach Ó Conghaile. Fear an tí will be Conchubhar Ó Luasa.
The Grand Concert will take place in the Parochial Hall at 8.45pm featuring Dylan Foley, Tony DeMarco, Eamon O’Leary, Seamus Tiernan, Conor Crimmins, June McCormack, Michael Rooney, Clíodhna Costello, Nora Butler and a host of other artists.
Sunday at 4pm the Music of the Gaeltacht concert will take place. The Gaeltacht areas are regarded by many as the last great strongholds of Irish culture. It is no surprise that they are home to some of Ireland’s finest musicians, singers and dancers. In this concert a variety of styles from the various Gaeltacht regions throughout the country will be showcased.
Amongst those taking part will be: Dermot Byrne (Tír Chonaill), Maire Ní Standúin (Tuar Mhic Éadaigh), Kevin Coyne (Conamara), Gearóid O Dubháin (Conamara), Aoife Granville (An Daingean), Conchubhar Ó Luasa (Muscraí), Caoimhín Ó Fearghail (Rinn Ua gCuanach), Mícheál Ó Raghailligh (Contae na Mí) and Paddy Allen (Conamara & Contae na Mí).
Later in the evening at 9pm there will be Céilí Mór na Féile with music provided by The Dartry Céili Band.
During the festival there will be traditional music sessions occurring in all the local pubs. These sessions will be happening during the afternoon & night and are marvellous free entertainment open for all to attend.
Monday will see the “Slán Abhaile” Sessions which will commence at 12.30pm in all pubs.
