This January sees the 6th annual Féile na Tána getting underway from the 31st of January until the 2nd of February. It promises to be a packed weekend of Traditional Irish Music, Song & Dance for all ages with Concerts, Workshops and Music sessions.

Kicking off this years Féile na Tána will be a concert featuring renowned local musicians Zoë Conway on fiddle and John McIntyre on guitar followed by the Traditional Orchestra of Scoil Naomh Lorcan, Omeath. The concert will  start at 7pm in St. Michael’s Hall, Newry Street, Carlingford. This will be followed by a young musicians’ session in St. Michael’s Hall.

On Saturday a series of workshops will be held at Bush Post Primary School which is about a 10 minute drive from Carlingford. The workshops are limited to 15 places per workshop and are for players with 3 years or more experience with the exception of the easy tin whistle class, singing and Sean-nós dancing. Registration for the workshops will start at 1.30pm with the workshops commencing at 2pm and finishing at 5pm.

The Tutors for this years Féile na Tána are, for Fiddle (Advanced): Dónal O’Connor; Fiddle (Intermediate): Zoe Conway; Tin Whistle (Advanced): Mary Bergin; Tin Whistle (Easy): Des Cafferkey; Pipes: John McSherry; Harp: Laoise Kelly; Flute: Éamon de Barra; Accordion: Máirtín O’Connor; Concertina: Edel Fox; Guitar: John McIntyre; Singing: Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh; Banjo: Cathal Hayden* TBC; Bodhrán: Robbie Harris and Sean nós Dancing: Edwina Guckian.

Tickets costs are €35/£30 and includes admission to all events. To reserve a place please send an email to [email protected] with the applicants’ name, age, address, and contact telephone number.

In the evening at 7pm there will be a Tutors Recital featuring the workshop tutors at St. Michael’s Hall.

The Féile na Tána Festival Concert will be on Sunday afternoon commencing at 4pm in St. Michael’s Hall. On stage will be some outstanding young groups from the locality and around Ireland including Banna Ceoil CCE Craobh Dhún Dealgan; Rulya, Dundalk; Faoi Gheasa, De La Salle College, Dundalk; Banna Ceoil CCE, Carrickmacross; Breandán & Tiarnan O’Connell, Dublin; Ragaire, Drogheda and Music Generation Louth musicians.

Over Féile na Tána, there will be traditional music sessions occurring in Mc Kevitts Hotel and The Four Seasons Hotel. Participating in them will be some of Ireland’s finest musicians. These sessions are marvellous free entertainment open for all to attend. Please visit Programme for details.
