This years Feile Strokestown kicks off with a céilí featuring the Killina Céilí Band in a Tribute to Joe Donoghue on Friday.
On Saturday in Scoil Mhuir there will be a series of Workshops held. They will run from 10am until 1pm. The cost per participant will be €25 with family discounts available. The Workshops and Tutors will be for Accordion: Daithí Gormley; Flute: Orlaith McAuliffe; Fiddle: Eileen O’Brien; Concertina: Caroline Keane and Piano accompaniment: Dr. Geraldine Cotter.
On Saturday afternoon at 2pm in The Percy French Hotel the Flute Forum will offer a rare glimpse into the playing of some of Roscommon’s finest exponents of the flute. The players will demonstrate and talk about what makes Roscommon flute playing so distinctive and also so popular among flute players the world over. The panel will also take questions from audience members and this promises to be a hugely popular event unique to Feile Strokestown. Following on from the Flute Forum there will be a number of CD Launches.
This years headline concert will be on Saturday evening where for the first time ever in concert, brothers Seán and James Keane will be performing with Garry O’Briain in The Percy French Hotel. The opening support group will be Daithi Gormley, Orlaith McAuliffe, Dylan Carlos and Catherine McHugh.
On Sunday afternoon in The Percy French Hotel will see Songs and Stories of Percy French, with songs by Tommy McDermott, quotes and anecdotes from Sean Beirne and from Germany, classical guitarist Hilke Billerbeck.
During Feile Strokestown, there will be traditional music sessions occurring in most of the local Pubs. These sessions will be happening during the afternoon & night and are marvelous free entertainment open for all to attend. Please visit feilestrokestown.com for details of the Session Trail.
