John Joe Maguire Traditional Weekend

This February will see the 8th John Joe Maguire Traditional Weekend in Swanlinbar, Co. Cavan. It is a weekend of traditional Irish music, song and dance named after the man who did so much to promote music in the area.

The weekend kicks off on Friday evening with the Swanlinbar CCE Branch Seisiún in the Swan Bar (Mickey Mac’s) with invited guests. The Seisiún will start at 9pm.

Saturday evening will see Sets Céilí with Breege Flynn in St Mary’s Hall with the Swallow Tail Céilí Band. All sets céilí from 9pm to 12pm. This promises to be a fantastic night of dancing. Refreshments served.

On Sunday there will an Advanced Youth Seisiún with Cavan Man Martin Donohoe in The Swan Bar. This will start at 2:30pm

Then later on in the afternoon there will be a Singing Seisiún. This will commence at 5pm in The Stables Bar. This Seisiún will feature Local Singers, with all welcome to join.

Throughout the weekend, there will be Seisiúns occurring in the pubs all over the town. These sessions are marvellous free entertainment open for all to attend.
