Kilkenny Tradfest, now in its seventh year, will present traditional music, song, dance and contemporary folk over the St. Patrick’s Day weekend at various venues across Kilkenny City including St. Canice’s Cathedral.
The headline act for this year’s TradFest is KGB – Paddy Keenan, Frankie Gavin and Dermot Byrne who will be supported by the CBS Trad Band past & present who will take to the stage in St. Canice’s Cathedral on Saturday at 7pm.
Over the course of the weekend there will be performances by Altan, Cry Monster Cry, Kilfenora Céilí Band, Téada with Séamus Begley, Trú, Iarla Ó Lionáird & Steve Cooney, Scullion, Caladh Nua, Yvonne Casey and Reel to Reel.
Amongst the highlights of the festival will be the Bulmers Trad Trail, which features numerous free gigs spread around the pubs and venues of Kilkenny. These sessions/gigs are marvellous free entertainment open for all to attend.
During the festival there will be a series of workshops/masterclasses. The workshops/tutors will be for Harp: Orla Fallon; Instrument Making Workshop: Paddy Cleere; Bodhrán Workshop: Tommy Lanigan; Sean-nós Dancing Workshop: Sibéal Davitt; Drumming Workshop (Adult): Jeremy Hickey.
