Scully’s Fest is a celebration of the traditional music and culture of Duhallow and Sliabh Luachra. The festival takes place annually on the weekend following the August bank holiday weekend.

It began in 2004 to mark that the weekly Monday night open sessions that had run since 1974 in Scully’s Bar. The aim of the festival is to take over the town of Newmarket and turn it into a Sliabh Luachra Music Paradise for one weekend every year.

Scully’s Fest is an ef­fort to strengthen lo­cal mu­sic and to embed it into the cul­ture of the re­gion. Over the weekend there will be a range of dif­fer­ent events, in­clud­ing Con­certs, Mu­sic and Dance Work­shops, Drama, Po­etry, Singing, as well as nightly ses­sions around the town.

Starting this years festival will be the Áit Place Art Exhibition Launch which will happen at 7pm on Thurs­day 9th. The art ex­hi­bi­tion will be open each day from 12 to 6pm.

Later on the Festival Launch will happen at Scanlon’s Bar. This will be at 9pm with a session featuring Scully’s Musicians.

On Friday at 2pm the Timmy O’Connor Documentary ‘The Man from Toureendarby’
will be shown at Newmarket Motors.

At 6pm in Scully’s Bar there will be an evening session with That Gallant Band.

The popular Rambling House will make its return in Dan Hourigans Bar at 8.30pm and will be hosted by lo­cal play­wright and ac­tor Mike Guerin. It will feature Drama, Song, Spoken word with special guest John Spillane.

In Scully’s Bar at 9.30pm there will be a session with Bryan O’Leary and friends.

Satur­day will see a range of music, dancing and singing work­shops in the town. There will be an afternoon session in Scully’s Bar starting at 3pm with Mary Donegan, Noreen O’Shea, Anne O’Shea and Áine Kelleher with another starting at 5pm in Scanlon’s Bar with Linda Gardiner and Tom Murphy.

The Gala Con­cert, An Glaoch 5 @ Glash will take place in the Glash Com­mu­nity Hall. The con­cert will feature Niamh ní Charra, Elle Marie O’Dwyer, Aoife Granville, Reel Women, Maura O’Connor and Caoimhe & Eimear Flannery.

Finishing off the evening at 9.30pm in Scully’s Bar there will be a session with John Cronin and Clí­ona Halley.

Sun­day is Fam­ily Day for Scully’s Fest with a Craft Market, BBQ and lots of great music at Scully’s Bar. This will run from 2pm until 5pm. There will be an afternoon session starting at 3pm with Derek Hickey and Leah Murphy. Following this will be the Kids Concert with Scully’s Music School at 4pm.

The evening session will start at 6pm in Scully’s Bar and will feature the Mick Culloty Band. Later on in the evening at T.D.’s Bar there will be a Singing Session hosted by West Limerick Singing Club.

Finishing off the evening at Scully’s Bar there will be a session with Con Herbertt, Dan Curtin, Timmy O’Connor & Raymond O’Sullivan starting at 9.30pm.

The fes­ti­val fin­ishes Mon­day night with a session in Scully’s Bar featuring Matt Cranitch & Jackie Daly. This will start at 5pm. Following on from this will be the usual Monday night ses­sion which is open to all and draws mu­si­cians from near and far.
