The annual Trá Buí – Pearse Holmes Memorial Traditional Music Weekend which runs this year from the 7th until the 9th of December with a full programme of events.
Musicians, singers and dancers from many parts of the country will travel to join with local performers for a weekend of traditional music, song and dance in memory of Pearse Holmes, at Trá Bhuí, Dú Thuama. The weekend will feature traditional music, song, story and dance by both local and visiting musicians. Also, past musicians of the Doohoma/Geesala area, and their contribution to traditional music in the local area will be remembered and honoured. All are welcome to attend and participate in the weekends sessions. So come along and bring your dancing shoes, bodhrán, or whatever pleases you, or simply just come and enjoy what promises to be a fabulous weekend of traditional Irish Music.
The weekend will commence on Friday evening with an informal seisiún ceoil with local and visiting musicians. Saturday is the main day of the weekend with festivities kicking off in the afternoon and will continue into the evening where there will be a night of music, song, and dance.
On Sunday afternoon there will be a Seisiún na nÓg, which will feature young musicians from the local area. The weekend will conclude as always with a ‘Slán Abhaile seisiún’ continuing well into the evening.
