Event Details

The West Cork Literary Festival is an annual highlight in the Irish literary calendar and is a week-long celebration of writing and reading for people of all ages in one of the most beautiful parts of the country.

From its humble beginnings as a series of casual poetry readings and fringe events around the West Cork Chamber Music Festival, the West Cork Literary Festival has expanded into a varied and extensive programme of readings, talks and week-long workshops, growing more adventurous and imaginative with each year.

Graham Norton, Mary Robinson, Joseph O’Connor, John Boyne, Sebastian Barry, Sarah Crossan, Kevin Barry, Sarah Moss, Anne Carson and Kit de Waal are just some of the high profile writers making the trip to West Cork for the Festival.

There will be Workshops and Masterclasses in Bookbinding, Crime Writing, Essays, Life-Writing and Memoir, Short Story, Novel Writing, Advanced Poetry, Songwriting, Travel Writing, Publicity and Words Allowed.

The main evening events will be held in the Maritime Hotel. There are free readings in Bantry Library and Bantry Bookshop, afternoon seminars, book launches, panel discussions, coffee and chat events. For aspiring authors there will be the opportunity to schedule a session with the Festival’s Editor in Residence who will go over, discuss and appraise your work.
