The annual Willie Keane Memorial Weekend will take place this year over the Bank Holiday Weekend, starting on the 26th and running until the 29th of October. The weekend will be loaded with the very best of song, music, dance and craic!
Willie Keane was Doonbeg’s best known personality and a great exponent of traditional dancing. He came to prominence with the Mullagh Set which won numerous competitions throughout Ireland. After frequent appearances on TV, he toured the U.S. with Clare’s best-known traditional artists and regularly taught set dancing at the Willie Clancy Summer School. His passing away in 1998 has left a huge void in Doonbeg. This weekend of music, song and dance is Doonbeg’s tribute to him.
Shaskeen will be in concert on Saturday in Doonbeg Hall, starting at 8:30pm. A great night of Traditional Music and Song is guaranteed. Admission is €15 on the door or you can book in advance.
Throughout the Festival Weekend, there will be traditional music sessions with dancing and Sean-nós singing occurring in the Pubs throughout the town. These sessions will be happening at different times, day and night, and are marvelous free entertainment open for all to attend. Details of the Session Trail can be found under Events at Session Trail.
