The Words By Water: Kinsale Literary Festival 2019 is now in its third year. Whether you want to hear a favourite author speak, listen to some lively debate or learn about the craft of writing for yourself this is the festival for you.
The seed for the festival was sown at a local book club, whose members longed to see some favourite authors and create an event that would also welcome other readers.
Luckily their number includes a number of veterans of the much-missed Kinsale Arts Week, who drew on previous experience to put together an ambitious programme of readings, workshops, competitions and more.
This year Words By Water sees a stellar lineup of authors such as Sinéad Gleeson, Donal Ryan, Emilie Pine, Rosita Boland and many more, reflecting its growing reputation. With its scope broadening with this years programme reflecting the myriad of ways people tell stories in 2019 Ireland, from the spoken word performance of Stephen James Smith to the artistry of Irish graphic novelists and illustrators on display at the Graphic Book Fair.
From the start the festival has sought to promote reading and storytelling for the next generation with returning favourites like plays and teenage book discussion to new workshops specifically for young people, the hope is to keep young minds engaged and leave them inspired.
Walking tours, musical events and maybe even the odd session should help the festivities continue long into the evenings and all with the beauty and famous welcome of Kinsale town as a bonus.
