This year sees the 10th annual Ballinaglera Traditional Music Weekend. The weekend kicks off on Friday night with Marcus Hernon and Family with Don Stiffe In Concert. This will be a concert that is certainly not to be missed! It will be held in Ballinaglera Community Hall and will commence at 9pm with doors open at 8pm. Admission will be just €12 with refreshments being served on the night.
Saturday 5th October
Seán Ward (fiddle), Owen Wynne (flute), Joe McGovern (accordion) Skerry Rynn’s Public House commencing at 9.30pm.
Orlaith McAuliffe (flute and whistles), Michael Dietz (guitar)………Mulvey’s Public House. 9.30pm – Close.
Sunday will see the annual Iron Mountain Session occur. This is part of the Iron Mountain Literature Festival and will feature a mix of words and music, with guests including Adrian Dunbar, Vincent Woods, Mohammad Saif-Khan, Edwina Guckian, Néillidh Mulligan and Mary McPartlan happen in Skerry Rynn’s Public House. This will commence at 12 midday.
Then in Mulvey’s Public House between 6 and 8.30pm there will be a Youth session featuring local young stars led by mentor Pádraig Sweeney, followed by a CD launch of the ‘Humours of Derrynacoosan’ featuring Mossie Martin (fiddle) & John Blake (guitar).
And in Skerry Rynn’s Public House at 9.30pm, Fergus Bogue will be launching his new CD ‘Díreach Ón gCroí’. He will be accompanied by Seamus Bogue (mouth organ & singing), Claire Bohan (fiddle).
The Ballinaglera Traditional Music Weekend will also have a ‘Cake Dance Competition’ on Sunday afternoon This will be hosted by renowned dancer and teacher Edwina Guckian. All traditional dancers will be most welcome. Also on Sunday evening there will be traditional cooking methods demonstrated such as, butter churning, bacon and cabbage and soda bread baking, all hosted by the inimitable John Reynolds of Gortletteragh.
