The Waterford Gaeltacht of Rinn Ó gCuanach sees this year’s Tionól Niocláis Tóibín kick off on Friday the 8th of February. The weekend promises to be a great weekend, celebrating the culture and music of the area with many musicians, dancers and singers coming together with local musicians.
Tionól Niocláis Tóibín is a festival of traditional music and song in memory of the famous Sean-nós singer from An Rinn, Nioclás Tóibín. It features some of the best of traditional musicians and singers from all over the country. Events include music workshops, classes and sessions, plus talks and plenty of craic.
This year’s gathering will be officially opened by Ann Mulqueen at 9.30pm in Tigh Ui Mhuirithe when Peter Browne will be awarded Gradaim Niocláis Tóibín.
Saturday will see a whole range of workshops taking place in Meánscoil San Nioclás as many fine musicians and singers will share their talents with the public.
The annual gathering concert will take place in Meánscoil San Nioclás in the evening. This will start at 7.30pm and take place in Meánscoil San Nioclás.
On Sunday at Séipéal San Nioclás will celebrate an Irish language mass which will be broadcast live on RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta.
There will be sessions occurring in Thigh Mhaonaigh, Tigh Ui Mhuirithe and Tigh an Cheoil. Participating in them will be some of Ireland’s finest musicians. These sessions are marvellous free entertainment open for all to attend.
